A Balancing Act - Transitional Work Arrangement

My days typically begin the same... working the minute my kids leave the house at 6:45 a.m., until they come home.  I try to get everything accomplished before they walk back through the door.  Sometimes it works; sometimes not.  This is especially true during the holidays.

I remember when Ford first announced Transitional Work Arrangement - known as TWA.  It was designed to allow parents to work flexible hours, juggling both career and family.  I first went on TWA when my oldest son was only a year old.  After a year of care by my parents while I worked full-time, I enrolled my son in daycare.  What came after that was constant illnesses.  Torn between being a devoted employee and a devoted parent.... I threw in the flag and began Transitional Work Arrangement.

Although no longer with Ford (I left in 2009 after 20 years), I find that TWA still applies.  My life is a constant juggle between parenting and Deliciously Home-Made.  The benefits.... I get to create unique and delicious treats, I get to do this in the comfort of my home, and most importantly, I can be there for my family.  This arrangement is challenging and often finds me up in the wee hours of the night finishing orders -- but this is a great trade off because I got to spend time with my family and share a family dinner with them.

So this Valentines Day.... I share my process with you and thank those for the support of my business. Deliciously Home-Made could not exist without your orders.  I also have to thank my supportive family who helps me with these orders.... my Mom, Aunt, Mother-in-Law, Sisters, Husband (up tying ribbons last night and packing boxes), and my kids.

Happy Valentine's Day!

My oldest son who opened my eyes to work-life balance.
